To be very honest, I started with cleaning jobs and picking cherries on a farm when I first came to Australia.

Since then, I’ve done all sorts of work, Uber driving, photography, removalist jobs, support work, even social media management and probably a few more I’ve lost count of. I said yes to whatever came my way because I knew every step was getting me closer to something better.

Like most migrants, I didn’t get into my professional field straight away. I took whatever work I could find just to get by. It was hard at times, but looking back now, I’m actually really grateful for those experiences.

Today, I’m working as a Business Analyst atHeubertand also helping other migrants to land professional jobs atHeubert AcademyIt’s taken a lot of effort, learning, and patience to get here.

If I had gotten a professional job the moment I arrived, I would’ve missed out on a lot. Odd jobs might not be what we plan for, but they teach you real-life skills, how to work hard, how to deal with people, how things work in the community. Sometimes, they even lead to unexpected opportunities.

Those early jobs taught me to stay grounded and focused. They reminded me that everyone starts somewhere.

If you’re still figuring things out, don’t be discouraged. Keep going. Try to surround yourself with people who are just a step ahead of you. Learn from them and keep improving yourself.

Everyone’s journey is different, but with consistency and the right mindset, things do change. Be proud of where you are and where you’re headed.
